Trekking in Versilia: walk by yourself is a beautiful activity to try in Versilia. Itinerary on the Versilia hills is an experience little told by the classic tourist guides. The Versilia area offers a lot, but there is little talk about sport, besides cycling and a classic holiday jog.
Today we talk a little about the Versilia hills. We leave the coast behind with its sea, shops, the noise of cars and the chaotic chaos. Trekking in Versilia is a great way to relax and keep trained. But it is also an excellent opportunity to discover the area and find beautiful landscapes.
Trekking in Versilia: walk by yourself.
Valdicastello – Sant’Anna.
Itinerary starts in Valdicastello is a municipality of Pietrasanta, above Versilia. To get there you have to go on the Sarzanese road more or less between Pietrasanta and Camaiore.
Valdicastello Carducci is a small peaceful and silent village. The silence is disturbed by the singing of birds, the sound of the water flowing from the stream and the occasional call of the rooster. This country immediately sent me the tranquility and serenity. It is no coincidence that it is located in the park called Peace National Park. It was there that the well-known Italian writer Giosuè Carducci was born on 27 July 1835. In this writer atmosphere I create his most beautiful works.
Itineraries start from Valdicastello. I chose a fairly simple one that leads to Sant’Anna, number 4. Itinerary number 4 first finds some of the numerous mining evidence of the area. It then goes back to the historical mule track for S. Anna, where other saddest testimonies are those of the 1944 Nazi massacre.
Focette then goes to the town of Farnocchia, dominating Upper Versilia. To get to S. Anna we took 1 hour and a half and to get off 1 hour.
- length of trail 4 of 8 km
- difference in altitude 750 m uphill and 230 downhill
S.Anna is a fraction of the municipality of Stazzema with a height of 660 m above the sea. This small village has at least 900 years of history. In the square there is the small church with the beautiful bell tower next to it and the view that opens to its right.
A little effort will be rewarded with postcard landscapes. This beautiful walk will give you views of the coast, many streams, flowers in the woods and maybe you can see some animals.
Practical tips for trekking.
- Trekking is a motor and sport activity, if not you are trained or you have health problems I do not recommend it since the paths are long enough and in some places they are very steep.
- Dress as comfortable as possible, sheltered and with trekking shoes, otherwise sporty and not slippery.
- Bring water and some snacks.
- In hot weather you will need something against mosquitoes.
- After heavy rain it is best to avoid trekking.
- Take some photos 🙂
