Pietrasanta is the pearl of Versilia. Also called the little Athens, the open-air museum, the jewel city and also the capital of artistic marble processing. Pietrasanta is an artistic heart of Versilia. In the last ten years Pietrasanta has had enormous artistic and tourist cultural growth. Pietrasanta is a source of inspiration and creativity.
Every time I go to Pietrasanta I feel like I’m on vacation and after a while time I don’t go back i miss this town … Small, welcoming, interesting, uniform and full of character, that’s how I would describe it in a few words.
Where is Pietrasanta – the pearl of Versilia.
This small medieval town is located between the Alps and the sea in the Versilia hills a few kilometers from Forte Dei Marmi and the exit of hightway. It is divided by the sea area which is Marina di Pietrasanta and the Pietrasanta hills. It has about 24 thousand inhabitants which increase during the season. It was born in the thirteenth century but its development has been developed in the last 10-15 years. Pietrasanta has maintained its character and tradition of craftsmanship over the years
How to get:
It is best to arrive by train, as the station is in the center so you don’t have to look for a parking space. It must also be said that Pietrasanta is very pleasant in the evening: there are numerous restaurants and pubs, one more beautiful than the other, shops and museums and galleries are open until late and the lighting of the city makes the Magical atmosphere.
So if you have decided to visit it in the evening, take the car. There are car parks near the pedestrian area. However, there are two large free car parks which are not far away anyway. Firstone is located near the bus station under the train station. Secondone is on the other side of town and is called La Pesa.
What to see in Pietrasanta

- Musa – Virtual Museum of Sculpture and Architecture. It is an innovative space equipped with multimedia systems that make any representation spectacular.
- Collegiate of San Martino – beautiful Cathedral of Pietrasanta very nice covered with marble which is located in the main square born in 1223.
- Church and Cloister of Sant’Agostino. In summer, very interesting exhibitions are set up there. It is a fantastic place, both from an architectural and content point of view. From the cloister you enter the church of S. Agostino (from a side entrance of the same) and the municipal library. The remains of the frescoes under the vaults are beautiful. Definitely not to be missed.
- Rocca of Scala. A few steps from the square above the cathedral you will find the wonderful view of Pietrasanta and a little of Versilia. You have to do a bit of climbing but don’t let yourself be lazy.
